New Movement Collective at Royal Festival Hall

“Our relationship to the urban environment, the complexities of group memory and the cyclical nature of evolution” are questioned and explored by New Movement Collective during the promenade performance of Collapse in the lesser known spaces at the Southbank’s Royal Festival Hall. I was invited to a rehearsal where I made some quick sketches, this will be a fascinating and immersive performance.

Anne De Terese Keersmaeker Tate Modern

Anne De Terese Keersmaeker Tate Modern

Over the weekend the renowned Belgian choreographer Anne De Terese Keersmaeker and her company Rosas were performing Work/Travail/Arbeid in the Turbine Hall Tate Modern. The music, composed by Gérard Grisey was played live by musicians with the collective name Ictus: a grand piano, flute, clarinet, violin, viola and cello. I drew Anne De Terese Keersmaeker in 2012 when she performed at the opening of the Tanks at Tate Modern. It was fantastic to have the opportunity again to watch and draw Keersmaeker’s choreography and see the excellent Rosas dancers performing.

A small selection of the many drawings I made, I will work from the drawings to create monotypes and etchings, maybe even a painting:

Brighton Festival 2016. Tilted Productions Dress rehearsal

BELONGING(S)

Brighton Festival 2016 @brightfest, BELONGING(s) dress rehearsal, a promenade performance, began in the council office underground car park and moved outside gradually getting closer to the sea, by the time we reached the sea-front the cast had doubled in size, the sun was setting and the sea became the atmospheric back drop for this thought provoking fascinating performance.

A Week of Sculpture

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

April 28 2016

Last week I took part in a week long sculpture course, mornings were spent at the V&A drawing, afternoons in a beautiful victorian studio close to the museum, sculpting under the exceptional tutoring of sculptor Marcus Cornish. Here are 2 of my 3 heads.

Vanessa sculpted in yellow wax

It was a joy to work with the wax, a very different experience to working with unforgiving wire, so good to be tutored and to work with others. I feel encouraged to explore the wax modelling further, but for now I must concentrate on completing a wire life size sculpture and printing etchings for our Open Studios in June.

Protein Dance. May Contain Food

Fabulous new show from Protein at The Place then touring, from choreographer Luca Silvestrini with a wonderful a cappella score from Orlando Gough. Eight performers are our waiters, four dancers and four singers who sing, dance and mime question our relationships with food, the confusing roles food plays in our lives and the controversial messages we are given about food. Humorous, touching and delicious.
