On Saturday The Liberty Festival took place in Trafalgar Square. This festival is an annual celebration of the contribution of deaf and disabled people to London’s culture. Candoco Dance Company in collaboration with Scarabeus aerial dance theatre performed Heartland, inspired by the legend of the Minotaur. The performers, Welly O’Brien and Bea Perini performed using an Aerial Hoop, Silks and a Corde Lisse.

I have drawn Candoco during rehearsals over the last six years, I have been invited to join the rehearsals in October this year as they prepare for the show at Queen Elizabeth Hall and I will join them again in early 2011 to draw during rehearsals of the new work.

My great friend, Rachel Gadsden, was capturing, on canvas, basketball training.

Open Studios

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Last night was the Private View for the Open Studios at 2nd Floor Studios, where I have my studio overlooking the river. A photographer from the local paper, the News Shopper took some shots of me and my most recent painting: Captured Like A Firefly in a Jam-Jar and also my sketch books. One sketch book in particular attracted a lot of attention last night, of New Adventures Swan Lake, drawn last Autumn, it was this sketch book that inspired the above painting, the title came from writer and friend Karen Fielding when describing my drawings.

Youtube Chasing Shadows

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

In May 2009 I had a 6 week solo exhibition, “Chasing Shadows” in the West End gallery GV Art. The gallery commissioned Martin Smith and Alex May of Quadratura to work with me and a dancer to make an audio/visual composition responding to my work. The dancer is Laban 3rd year student Alessandra Ruggeri. .

Quadratura had an event at GV Art on March 1st 2010 celebrating the 50th anniversary of Yves Klein’s Monotone Symphony and his Anthropometries, calling it Monotone Symphony 2010. Using technology, a soundscape composed for the event and live dance from three dancers, Quadratura created a mesmerising show of blue shadows and silhouettes, as the dancers moved the shadows remained, faded and built again where the dancers appeared next.
