Etching: Ordinary Courage
Theo Clinkard was invited to present the emotionally charged Ordinary Courage, a dance concerned with loss and inspired by the death of his mother, at The Danzalborde Festival in Valparaiso and at GAM in Santiago, Chille. Theo needed to raise £5000 to get the 6 dancers and musician to South America. Undaunted, Theo started a crowd-funding campaign, met their target in time and is now back in the UK.
This 2 plate etching was made after drawing the dance at the beginning of the year. The etching wasn’t working and I felt lost with it and put the plates to one side. Recently I began to work on it again, I cut the plates down to create a smaller more intimate space, then to tried the addition of chine collé, here is the result
Theo and I are both Resident Artists at Greenwich Dance.
This will be in the Greenwich Printmakers next exhibition, opening 11th November – Sunday 4th January, as well as in my Open Studio 15 – 16th November
